Dear Keith, It's been ten months since we bought our Sherwood from you after thoroughly researching the motorhome market. Since then we've been able to clock up over 24,000 kilometres travelling Australia's highways, outback tracks and National Parks. Having just arrived back from our latest trip which took us through outback NSW, QLD, NT, SA and VIC we thought we'd let you know how things have been going. Well, they've been going great. The 4x4, 3 litre, turbo-charged diesel Toyota Hi-lux hasn't missed a beat, and it's carried us over some pretty rough and steep tracks. Luckily, not a single puncture to date. The Hi-Lux option pack that included the bucket seats, ABS, air-con, etc. was definitely worthwhile and we'd suggest that you recommend that to any customer taking the Hi-Lux version of the Sherwood. Your suggestion of adding air-bag suspension controls from the cab was well justified. It enabled us to carry out minor levelling when parked with ease, plus providing an air hose for adjusting tyre pressures. The Fiamma side awning option is also a must if sitting outside in the sun. Fuel consumption has averaged between 7-9k's depending on terrain. That's pretty good compared to other motorhomers we've talked to. On the open highways the engine cruised comfortably at 80-90 km/h at around 2000 rpm and up to 110km/h on freeways. Although the effects of high winds could be felt, they gave no trouble. Similarly, there was no trouble in handling winding roads providing that the cornering speeds indicated by those yellow signs on the side of the road were adhered to. "Don't buy the largest motorhome you can afford" was the best bit of advice we were given early on, "Buy the smallest you can comfortably live in". We wanted one that gave us full head-height without messing around with a pop-top, an easy to maintain toilet plus hot water shower, good clearance above the bed, access from the cab, all round external vision from a no-nonsense dining table, a reasonably sized three way fridge and cooker plus enough storage. Your Sherwood model not only gives us this, but in addition we can park in a standard car spot, and this is a huge bonus either when sightseeing or shopping in town or city. Because of our choice of a 4x4 and a roof top air-conditioning the clearance height of 3.2m is something we have to always keep in mind, but hasn't given us a problem so far. We are pleased to tell you that your design of the Sherwood suits this retired couple perfectly, particularly with the simple but effective little extra's you've invented. The layout, mechanics, finishes and comfort have fulfilled our needs most adequately, and we trust, will continue to do so. As you know, this letter is totally unsolicited and we're happy for you to use it as you wish. Yours sincerely, Jackie and Gerry September 2004 Dear Keith, ![]() In passing, I met a man who suggested I buy the 4 X 4 Camper Manual for
February. PS Thank you for building a quality unit.
Dear Keith, Last September I took possession of the motorhome you made for us; on previous occasions I have already told you that I am satisfied with the quality and finish of your product. We have now done 4 extended trips totaling 28,000 km...! Today this happy customer would like to tell you that I was most impressed with the way the Hilux+Suncamper handled during a 15,700 km trip through rather remote areas of this wonderful country of ours: the Oodnadatta track (easy but in parts rocky, corrugation), the OLD Gunbarrel "highway" (rather rough, sandy), the Useless Loop track to the Zuytdorp cliffs and Steep Point (most westerly of WA, deep sand, high dunes), up to Cape Peron (20 km in low 4WD), from Coral Bay along the coast to Ningaloo (rough), from south-east of Exmouth on lonely tracks to Mt Augustus and ... the track to Ruby Gap and on to the Plenty Hw = 8 hours for 50 km, often low 4WD), straight east into Qld, (easy but bad corrugation first few hundred km) and home. Impressed ? So was I. The car handled VERY WELL INDEED. The turbo diesel a wonderful engine with enough power at all times for the heavy motorhome. Several times the front , even the whole vehicle, were airborne. Incredible hard corrugation shaking the car in a, say, painful way. Never a problem. Nothing loose, just some scratches. In total some 9,000 km dirt, 1,500 bad tracks, 200 in low 4WD - as a point of interest: 2,760 litres of diesel at up to $ 1.80/l, several x $ 1.20 - $1,40 !. Just to let you know that I am now an even happier customer of yours. Certainly I also
did impress a number of tough guys in their 4WD pickups who didn't quite believe their
eyes when I turned up with this motorhome where they had struggled through. Best Regards, Ralf
Dear Keith, Thanks a 1A for the magnificent "POP TOP" on the Delica. We are back in Tassie now and it attracts a lot of attention, a great professional job - looking forward to the rest of the fit-out. Jan + Sheila
Dear Keith,
Ten weeks ago, I picked up the Suncamper motorhome, which you had built according to my own extremely specified plans. in other words, every square centimetre - inside and outside - of this motorhome built on a Mercedes-Benz "Sprinter" Chassis, was done to the plans I had submitted to you. As this is my third motorhome in a period of twenty years, I knew exactly what I wanted and how to improve on my previous also custom built motorhomes. Between 5 and 14 April of this year, approximately 100,000 visitors to Australia's largest Caravan and Camping Show in Sydney at Rosehill Racecourse had a look at my motorhome which was displayed upon your request. After having driven almost 4,000 km in my most impressive motorhome, I would like to express my gratitude and complete satisfaction with the motorhome which highly skilled men in your factory built for me. Allow me to point out just one quite unique feature, which turned out even more impressive than my own design. That is the following: above a two-way fridge (electricity and battery power because I want no gas bottle in my motorhome) there is a well designed drawer for cutlery etc., and above that - inside a cabinet - the most modern Orion TV combined with a VCR (both connected to either outside power or the two extra batteries); above that a Black & Decker Microwave and on top of it a powerful Heron Air Conditioner (completely INSIDE the living area and NOT on the roof as in most motorhomes). I would like to express my unreserved gratitude to you, Keith, and your most professional staff for the outstanding work they did for me and I recommend Suncamper Motorhome wholeheartedly. Dr. E. Aldin
Dear Keith and Staff, Just a quick line to tell you have well my van is going. Been in incredible places with it. All the best. J. Stalke
In that time we have travelled from far north Queensland to the southernmost tip of Tasmania, not to mention the outback and Kangaroo Island. I'm happy to say that during those trips our vehicle has performed impeccably. Because of its manageable size, we use it quite a lot around city for daily activities and weekend picnics. It is comfortable multipurpose vehicle and we are very happy with it. Regards. Frank and Margo Broderick
